CONTEUR is the creation of Toronto’s acclaimed choreographer Eryn Waltman. Deriving its genesis from the French word meaning “storyteller”, Conteur is a newly formed Canadian contemporary dance company that incorporates modern dance movement to express ideas and commentaries on the human condition. Conteur’s focus is to offer unique, inspiring and entertaining choreographic productions to its audiences and leading edge technical instruction to its students.

Eryn Waltman has long recognized the need in Canada’s dance community for continued study and training beyond the formative years of the studio. Conteur’s vision is to offer a program in which elite dancers continue to grow technically, hone their skills and remain tuned for professional opportunities, such as those offered by Conteur’s performance company. The Academy’s offering is intended to enhance the training experience of those seeking a career in performance, teaching or choreography.

A 2 year training program, The Academy aims to enhance the skills of an already accomplished practitioner with exposure to contemporary, jazz, modern, ballet, floor barre, pilates, yoga and other specialties of dance and body training. Students are offered a unique program in which to develop their expertise and assist in building their portfolio needed for pursuing a professional career in the industry. A 30-hour week of technical training is provided and includes participation in the Conteur repertoire class. A tuition fee schedule and details of the curriculum will be made available to those successful candidates who qualify for the program.

–          Conteur repertoire class available to students as well.

–          At the end of the program – Conteur students will receive a certificate of completion and have opportunities to perform at annual performances as part of the programs intensive. Students will also have an opportunity to audition for the professional Conteur Company.

CRITERIA:

–          Strong technique training in ballet (syllabus not specified)

–          Specialty in contemporary and modern training

–          Minimum of 5 years of technical training

–          Superior talent and overall versatility
